🟢 Objective
Originally launched as Sawmill Business in 2016 and later rebranded to Woodpreneur in 2018, the goal was to create the first media, community, and education platform for wood industry entrepreneurs—makers, sawyers, mill owners, and custom furniture brands.
At the time, no cohesive brand or hub existed to unify this niche yet powerful ecosystem. Information was fragmented across forums, Facebook groups, and word-of-mouth. There was no media presence focused on amplifying individual makers and small-scale wood businesses—nor any centralized effort to equip them with modern business skills.
🛠 What We Did
- Rebranded Sawmill Business to Woodpreneur
- Created a theme page and Instagram community to amplify makers
- Launched the Woodpreneur Podcast (10K–15K monthly downloads)
- Built a 25,000+ person email list and newsletter
- Hosted live meetups and regional events across the U.S. (NYC, LA, San Diego, Dallas, Denver, St. Louis, Sacramento, Portland, Chicago)
- Ran group coaching programs, workshops, and online courses
- Created digital funnels and free tools for lead gen
- Collaborated with brands in the industry for sponsored content
- Fostered a self-sustaining Facebook group + Slack-style community
- Transitioned hosting and leadership to Jennifer Alger, a leader in urban lumber, while maintaining collaborative operations
🧠 Strategic Process
Woodpreneur was incubated to fill an education + inspiration void in a technical, under-supported sector. The brand positioned woodworkers and sawyers as business owners, not just craftspeople—unlocking a new identity: wood entrepreneur.
BuilderGrowth used content-first systems—Instagram reposting, community interviews, and podcasting—to build visibility. From there, monetization came through courses, group coaching, sponsorships, and ecosystem partnerships.
🎯 Results
- #woodpreneur hashtag used over 80,000 times
- 10K–15K monthly podcast downloads
- Over 25,000 email subscribers
- Dozens of regional events hosted nationwide
- Brand became a recognized leader in the wood business space
- Helped thousands of wood business owners launch, grow, and professionalize their operations
- Successfully transitioned leadership while maintaining platform integrity
📍 Current Status

🔁 Closing Reflection
Woodpreneur is a testament to BuilderGrowth’s ability to build community-powered brands in overlooked sectors. It didn’t just inform or entertain—it transformed lives, empowering woodworkers to turn their passion into full-time businesses. It also redefined what “impact” means: not just for underserved individuals, but for underserved industries with generational potential.
